Let’s introduce the star of this project: Jimmy Hitchcock. A name synonymous with gridiron greatness, Jimmy Hitchcock carved his path to the NFL on the hallowed grounds of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). Capturing his story meant venturing beyond the studio walls and venturing into the heart of Tar Heel territory.
Logistical Challenges: Filming at UNC
Filming at UNC Chapel Hill presented an exciting logistical challenge. As a seasoned Charlotte videographer, I’ve become adept at navigating diverse shooting environments. Obtaining the necessary permits for filming on university grounds required meticulous planning and coordination. Without having any knowledge of the campus or the exact location meant we had to be prepared for anything. Small challenges would be figuring out parking. Bigger challenges were making sure we were set up in a timely manner to stay on schedule. The goal? To ensure a smooth production process that respected the historic campus while capturing the raw emotion of Jimmy Hitchcock returning to his alma mater.
A Homecoming of Memories: Reconnecting on the Field
Our first filming location on campus was in room named after Jimmy Hitchcock himself. Stepping onto that familiar turf, surrounded by the iconic Dean E. Smith Center, sparked a wave of memories. We documented Jimmy Hitchcock reminiscing about key moments, the roar of the crowd echoing in his mind’s eye. This wasn’t just a visual capture; it was a reconnection with a bygone era, a raw and intimate portrayal of athletic passion.
